Case Study: Gateside viaduct coring project
|Location||Barrhead, East Renfrewshire|
|Overview||The scope of works was to undertake 10 horizontal core samples on Gateside Viaduct on the Spandrel and Wing walls.|
The core samples required meant drilling up to 2 metres deep to assess the wall thickness and establish the fill materials.
Seven of the required locations were at height and therefore rope access techniques were utilised to carry out the coring.
TRAC supplied a 4-man rope access team to complete the works over 3 dayshifts. Due to the challenging access the viaduct posed, TRAC was able to utilise our expertise in rope access to gain access to complete all the cores.
Petzl anchors were used to rig the ropes from the viaduct. TRAC supplied a Hilti 350 Diamond Core drill machine which proved an extremely successful and efficient piece of kit and due to its low weight, was very manoeuvrable and ideally suited for working at height.
TRAC successfully completed its first coring project in the beginning of June 2016.
