Case Study: Somerton
|Project||De-Vegetation and Geotechnical Works|
|Overview||TRAC were appointed to carry out de-vegetation and geotechnical works on the infrastructure in Somerton.|
Works required the de-vegetation of the slopes either side of the track and above the tunnel itself before geotechnical work scopes could commence. A range of track services were required for site clearance and anchor install:
Specialist Road Rail Vehicles (RRVs)
TRAC undertook the site clearance works with the tracked chipper. On completion of the de-vegetation, drills mounted on road rail vehicles (RRVs) and long reach excavators were brought in for the second phase of the works. 7 rows of rock bolting was required with RRVs handling lower rows (1-3) and long reach undertaking the rest.
Upon installation of the rock bolts, Deltax mesh was fitted by rope access personnel.
For every ten rock bolts installed, 3 grout cubes were created and sent to an approved local laboratory for suitability testing.
TRAC successfully completed works to Client’s satisfaction; on time and within budget.
